Done with the calorie counting BS.

I am raging. All I wanted to do was enjoy a lie in this morning but turns out Spotify and its marvellous ad’s had something different in mind.

For those who don’t know, I am a bit of a crossword fanatic and enjoy taking the time each morning to tackle the daily puzzle. As Spotify played some background tunes this fine Thursday morning I began picking apart my morning clues. However, as is custom, the playlist got interrupted by my half hour dose of Spotify sponsors. Don’t get me wrong, I know this is part of the deal, I don’t have premium and so this is the price I have to pay. Nevertheless, that does not excuse the BS excuse of an advert that dared to try and cross my speakers. It was promoting yet another fitness app, encouraging me to lose weight and COUNT CALORIES. Oh My Goodness did that get my goat. You can’t even sit and stop for a second to do the crossword now without some platform telling you to get off your arse go unhealthily develop some obsessive calorie counting habits - Oh and have a nice day!

The calorie counting culture is one that upsets me deeply and frankly I am done with it. I am reading more and more articles daily about the fact that the number presented on a menu or food packet is highly inaccurate and not a fair indicator of whether a meal is healthy or not. I know that some people who count calories find it really beneficial, but I am yet to meet that person. The moment I do I really want to have a chat and find out how it helps. This is not meant to be antagonistic. I am genuinely interested. The way I see it, is that some “fitness” blogger tells you a “good”/“healthy” amount you should have each day and should you exceed that suddenly you are “greedy” or “fat”.

Calorie counting is something my ED thrived on. Kevin would tell me I had used up my limit in a day, congratulate me when I went under it and even convinced me that if I went over it the next day I should punish myself. I know a marketing ad on Spotify does not know this and it was not a personal attack but that is what it feels like. When I am constantly hearing of how these apps have hurt so many people and their mental health by making them feel bound by a stupid number on their phone I want to turn around and tell that group of people writing these ads to stop. If you are not already aware that those apps exist you are living under a rock because frankly we all know they are numerous.

So yes, rant over and so is my tolerance for all this calorie counting Bull Shit!
